Berkman Center research: the main features of Russian blogs

Scientific organization Berkman Center, working at Harvard University, published the results of his study «Public Discourse in the Russian Blogosphere: Mapping RuNet Politics and Mobilization», devoted to studying the peculiarities of the Russian-language blogosphere. Starting with an analysis of five million blogs, the researchers gradually reduced the number of sources considered to about 11,000, constituting, in their opinion, "the core of a debate" with a high degree of activity. We offer you the main conclusions reached by experts.
Unlike their counterparts in the U.S. and the rest of the world, Russian bloggers prefer platforms that combine the features of their own blogs with social networking services (social network services, SNS), such as Facebook. In the Russian dominated by a few of these blogs «SNS-hybrids. While the current blogosphere is largely divided on the platforms, a central core of the discussions, which contains the bulk of the discussions of politics and public life. Nucleus are predominantly, though not exclusively, blogs on LiveJournal.
Topics discussed in the center of the debate, divided into four main groups:
politics and public life (for a discussion of news, business, financial, and social activism, political events);
culture (including literature, cinema, elite and popular culture);
regional themes (Russian-language bloggers in Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Israel, etc.);
instrumental subjects (writing and paid for blogging on foreign orders).
